La felicidad de dar

Apenas finalizado el 21 Festival Internacional de Jazz de Punta del Este caí en la cuenta de que ya estaba pensando en la organización del siguiente. A su vez me puse a reflexionar sobre tantos años de sacrificios  y satisfacciones, y acerca de los motivos por los cuales sigo adelante con este emprendimiento, contra todas las dificultades.

Y sucedió que me encontré con un texto del poeta peruano Oscar Ponce de León, en el cual estaba la respuesta a mis cuestionamientos y la definición más clara de por qué hago lo que hago: "Todos los seres humanos tenemos una misión en la vida, lo triste es que la mayor parte de la gente no sabe a qué vino al mundo,y vive sin saberlo durante años y años. Hasta que un día se va sin conocer su trascendencia, la importancia de esa misión que da un sentido profundo a la existencia. El amor es la fuerza más importante que tenemos los seres humanos y eso nos hace felices. Lo cierto es que luchamos denodadamente para lograr la felicidad. Y es lógico, porque vinimos al mundo para ser felices. El problema es que buscamos donde la felicidad no está. Vamos muy lejos persiguiendo poder, placeres, riqueza, prestigio social, etcétera.

Pero nada de todo eso nos hará felices. La felicidad está en la capacidad de amar y de dar. No es tan difícil encontrar esta misión, simplemente hay que buscar algún momento del día que permita tomar distancia de la excesiva fatiga diaria y pensar en las cosas que le causan placer a uno, que le gustan o que le gustaría  hacer, todo lo que le pase par la mente, aún las cosas más absurdas y disparatadas. Mantenerlas y analizarlas, hasta encontrar alguna que lo atrae de una manera especial, que realmente lo apasiona, hasta el punto que podría dedicar  el resto de su vida para hacerlo realidad."

Luego de leer estas palabras me vi reflejado y me sentí aliviado. Comprendí cabalmente cuál era mi misión, para qué estoy aquí, comprendí la razón por la cual sigo soñando con el festival.

Así es que ahora, más que nunca, tengo la inmensa alegría de comunicar que el "22º Festival Internacional de Jazz de Punta del Este" tendrá lugar entre el 4 y el 7 de enero de 2018 en la Finca El Sosiego de Punta Ballena, contando como siempre con músicos extranjeros de altísimo nivel y con la dirección musical del gran Paquito D'Rivera. Están todos invitados.

The Joy of Giving

Just after finishing the production of the 21st Festival Internacional de Jazz de Punta del Este, I realized that I was already thinking about the production of the twenty-second. This led me to reflect on all of the years of sacrifice and satisfaction, and the motivation that has driven me to continue this endeavor, despite all of the challenges it entails.

Coincidentally, around the same time, I came across a text written by the Peruvian poet Oscar Ponce de Leon, in which lay the not only the answer to my questioning and definition of, why it is I do what I do:

"AII human beings have a mission in life. The sad part is that the majority of people do not know why they came into the world. They live without knowing the reason for years and years, until one day they leave this life without knowing their own significance, and the importance of that mission that gives the deepest meaning to existence. Love is the most important force that we have as human beings, and that in itself makes us happy. The truth is that we fight bravely to achieve happiness. This is logical, because we are born into the world to be happy. The problem is that we search for happiness where it is not. We go beyond, pursuing power, pleasure, wealth, social prestige, and so on.

But none of those things will make us happy. Happiness lies in the ability to love and to give. It is not so hard to discover this mission. All there is to do is find one moment of the day that allows us to distance ourselves from the excessive fatigue of day to day life. A moment that allows us to think and recognize the things that give us pleasure in the form of happiness, the things we like or would like to do. A moment that allows us to think about anything that passes through our mind, no matter how absurd or ridiculous they may be. We must let ourselves consider and analyze these thoughts and ideas, until we come across one that draws us in, that truly inspires us, to the point that we could dedicate the rest of our life to making it reality."

After reading these words, I found that I strongly identified with their meaning and I felt relieved. I understood exactly what my mission was, the reason why I am here.I understood the reason why I keep dreaming of the next Festival.

So it is now more than ever that I have the immense happiness of announcing that the "22nd Festival Internacional de Jazz de Punta del Este" will take place the 4th to the 7th of January, 2018, here at the Finca Sosiego in Punta Ballena. As always, it will feature foreign musicians of the highest leve! and quality, and will be under the musical direction of the great Paquito D'Rivera. Everyone is invited.
